Philanthropy is part of TCU’s fabric and has
been since the University’s founding, when
the Clark family poured its resources into the
tiny school in Thorp Spring that became Texas
Christian University. So it’s fitting that the campus
community take pause to consider the impact of
140 years of philanthropic support, thank donors
and nurture a new generation of givers.
Thus University Advancement hosted National
Philanthropy Week in November to drive home
the extensive impact that donor support has had
and continues to have upon TCU. Large purple
gift bows adorned 35 buildings representative
of the many made possible by philanthropic
gifts. Students, faculty and staff wore “donor
appreciator” shirts emblazoned with “Count Me
In,” the Annual Giving theme. Live streamed
lectures by highly distinguished faculty ranged
from “Helping the Homeless Through Research”
to “Combating Human Trafficking” — TCU
programs that are making a difference in the
world. Alumni, students, faculty and staff handily
met the Chancellor’s Challenge to enroll 500
new donors during #TCUGivesDay. Of the 589
contributors, 101 were TCU students.
